Blossom Baby & Eden Reforestation Project: Plant Trees. Save Lives.

Blossom Baby and Bed has partnered with the Eden Reforestation Project. This means that for every item purchased, we donate the funds to plant one tree.

We chose this as our primary "Giving Back" project, because we are really passionate about trying to preserve our planet for our children and grandchildren, as well as making a positive impact on the well being of babies, children and families all around the world.

We think it is a beautiful thing that our customers can see their baby using one of our products, and know that somewhere in the world a tree donated on their behalf is growing alongside their baby

What does planting a tree with Eden do?

Planting a tree with Eden helps not only the environment, but also locals:

  • The ecosystem and climate is being helped: Eden only plants trees native to the area, in an area that needs reforestation. This helps reduce erosion, flooding and desertification, as well as helping other flora and fauna to thrive.
  • Poverty is lifted: Eden employs local people in need to raise, plant and look after the trees long term. Having a fair and consistent income means they can provide for their families, resulting in better health, education and safety for their children.

Who are the Eden Reforestation Project?

Eden is a well established non-profit organisation that started in 2004 and has since planted over 400 million trees! Eden works directly with villages and communities suffering from extreme poverty resulting from the deforestation and destruction of the land that sustains them. They employs thousands of local villagers and provides them with the education and tools necessary to plant, grow, and protect millions of trees each year. The short video below illustrates the impact their project has on a community:

Where are the trees planted?

The main countries that our donated trees are planted are: Madagascar, Indonesia, Mozambique, Nepal, Kenya, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua. Trees will be planted in different countries throughout the year due to seasonality and need.

What type of trees are planted?

Eden only plants native species trees and this varies these vary from country to country but include mangroves, acacia, podocarpus, and ficus. 10% of trees are native agro-forestry species to be used for food, animal feed and construction to help provide food security and meet community needs.

Why aren't you planting trees in New Zealand?

As Blossom Baby is a small business just starting up, unfortunately our impact could not be as large due to the significantly higher donation costs for similar planting projects in New Zealand. As we grow, we will continue to look for tree planting opportunities locally that we can support. Additionally, while Eden is our main "Giving Back" project, we have signed the 1% Pledge and so have a plan to donate to other New Zealand based charities in the near future, including KidsCan and The Mums Clique.
